Um...depends on the style of game. They're fine for an "ordinary people
investigate occult underground game". They suck for a "freaks and wierdos
already in Occult Underground game screw over other freaks and weirdoes also
in Occult Underground game"...and I find the latter a more interesting game.
If I want pure investigation, I'll run Cthulhu. If I want a game where
magick is taken in stride, that's UA.
> 2. How large is the Occult Underground in your game?
Hrrmm. I never quite put a number on it. I had about 30 characters who knew
each other to a greater or lesser extent, and an indefinite number of
isolated mages and avatars who weren't part of the Underground per se. As
large as it needs to be really....the nice thing is that the OU can be
anywhere. That ordinary bank clerk has a drawer full of cheques and forms
that people suffered papercuts from...there's a tiny smudge of blood on the
edge of each one....every lunchtime, she slips a little raw meat into the
drawer....

"In addition," Henry noted, "our University has a fine theozoology
department. Few faculty anywhere can rival our professors when
it comes to studying and classifying new sorts of God!"
"How many kinds of God are there?"
"One, so far," Henry admitted, "but the Department has just
recently constructed a ministerial accelerator that they
believe will give rise to as many as seventeen forms of
God heretofore unknown."
