Well, if you just have the person roll after taking some
time off, then that would be unwieldy.

However, I am almost convinced that great artists have to
be insane. Take a look out there. In order to get that
major charge, the artist has to undergo a great deal of
mental turmoil. If he's involved with the OU, then he
knows what he must do. He must learn all he can and push
his mind to the brink. Perhaps that's what the other
masters do. Take drugs, mutilate yourself, attempt every
ritual you find even if it doesn't work.

I'm not sure how to relate it to gameplay...require at
least 6 hardened and 2 failed in each category before
attempting the work. I wouldn't put a number on it,
though.

Most schools of magick have great story seeds for a major
charge. Epideromancers don't since they can just jam an
ice pick in their eye. However, for the boozehound to get
that special liquor, for the cliomancer to dive at the
Titanic site, for the amoramancer to get someone to fall in
love with her, there must be a story. This could take
months of role-playing. When the GM feels that the player
has endured enough torture and madness, then he tells the
player to roll. Or, if the story is so compelling, why
ruin it with something as anticlimactic as a roll? He
earned that major charge, so he gets it. It automatically
is a success because nothing with that much energy and
frustration and hatred and love can ever be a failure. It
truly is the artist's opus. Then he sets it on fire.
