I loved HUSH HUSH, but I didn't like it as much as I liked LG&$. I'm
thinking of writing a review for RPG.net or something. For one thing, the
_power_ level of the Sleepers bothered me...they seem just a little too
beefy, but maybe that's just my preconception of the butting up against that
of the writers. Or it could be that since many Sleepers work alone they
have to be able to handle a cabal of PCs.
On the other hand, the write-ups of what the Sleepers think of everybody
else are great, and I love the brief tour of certain "scenes" in America.
The UA line really seems to have gained a solid sense of itself with this
release--perhaps it was the throwaway references like the street history or
numerous cabals the Sleepers had mixed it up with. It might be because the
last couple supplements were more Statosphere and magic based, and I look
for a street game. Whatever the reason, I felt more "immersed" in the OU
than normal. This probably isn't surprising; the only Trinity release to
give me an "immersion" vibe was Stellar Frontiers, which Greg Stolze worked
on...
ObUA: For my part, the Sleepers would make a great enemy to base a
campaign around--my mind swirls with ideas for a cabal of people hurt by the
Sleepers and dedicated to destroying them, or a cabal of Sleepers bent on
reforming the Cabinet, which seems to be made up of some real pricks...well,
two pricks. Of course, in either case the PCs might destroy the Cabinet,
but in the end the PCs would become the _new_ Cabinet, sort of a Philip K.
Dick "Destroy a part of the machine and become that part of the machine."
All in all, a solid thumbs up from me.
