Armed with the promise of a nice paycheck now that I've got a real adult
job, I went to my friendly local gaming store tonight (I went to my *other*
friendly local gaming store today, but they're still not doing a very good
job of keeping up to date on new RPG releases). I grabbed Statosphere right
off the shelf, then wept when I saw that I could easily spend a hundred
bucks on new stuff without breaking a sweat: Guardians of Order's Tenchi
Muyo! RPG, HDI's Fading Suns LARP (I'm not a big LARP fan, but it's *Fading
Suns*), the Agency book for Deadlands . . . .
But I digress. Statosphere. Very nice so far, although I'm not
anywhere near through with it. Greg Stolze's story at the beginning is
incredible--I think I may like it even better than "Roll Your Bones," but I
haven't decided yet. The information on what your life is like as an Avatar
is very useful, as is the information on how to ascend. I generally like
the new archetypes offered, especially the Hunter, and the write-ups of
Saint-Germain (I'm not reading in any particular order).
More than any other game, UA seems to inspire "great minds syndrome."
When the game first came out, I commented that it was like a movie written
by Tim Powers directed by Quentin Tarantino, with a soundtrack by Nick Cave.
A similar quote turned up in a review on Pyramid. Now there's the True King
archetype in Statosphere, which has a number of similarities to the Wounded
King archetype I wrote up some time back. My write-up is here:

contrast.
If I'm indeed an Avatar of the Muse, where the hell are my cool
channels?
