Ok, hopefully this will make up for my two off-topic dream posts.
Does anyone else find the description of lycanthropes in the UA rulebook
jarring? It's an interesting idea, but I don't think it can work as an
explanation for lycanthropes.
Reality rewrites itself (except for some inconsistancies it can't patch
up) and observers always see either a person or an animal. Their
memories are rewritten to whichever the lycanthrope is at the moment.
Therefore, no one would ever come up with the idea of "lycanthrope"
except in the most academic discussion of causes behind the
inconsistancies discovered.
I mean, no one would ever say "So an so saw a man fly. He must be a
raven!" Although someone could come up with a round about explanation
similar to the one in the book.
What I'm getting at is the use of the word "lycanthrope". It posseses a
mythic meaning, which should be turned on it's head in the UnAverse,
just like everything else. Except the mythic meaning is wasted, since
no one *could* use the term to discribe the effect.
Ok, I'm getting to the point of rambling. 4 hours on the road and not
enough sleep will do that. If someone has any idea what I'm saying, let
me know.
