Well considering UA's typical "Occult Noir" genre; no
screenwriter need anyone's approval, (apologies to Mr
Tynes & Mr. Stolze. Keep up the good work!).
As long as the writers keep to the framework, alter
names and perhaps descriptions of trademarked
beasties, they could write what they pleased. The
problem would come in getting producers to finance the
whole rigmarole. Considering the current
Post-Millenial supernatural flick trend, things might
look a little better, but its a touchy theme
nonetheless. Look at the problems Terry Pratchett,
Neil Gaiman and Garth Ennis have had trying to talk to
Producers have been. Mort was to have been filmed
without Death, 'cause it would have upset audiences.
Sandman would have been a war been Morpheus, King of
Dreams, and his Evil-Twin-Brother, Nightmare. As for
Preacher. Ennis' Irish stubborness has at least saved
a Judge Dredd type of butchering.
If you have read any of these works you'd know what
misminded and finicky industry the entertainment
industry is. Beware.
Finding the happy ending is also a problem. Many of
Lovecraft's works have been B-graded due to supposed
lack of audience.
And Carnals would definately get it that
takings-slashing R rating.
Perhaps an in-house push at the T.V. media would be
more successful. But then again, anyone remember
Rein-Hagen's Vampire T.V. series? Not. There we go.
Still its a great pipe-dream.
Chris.
