'kay so far.

I'm not sure if that's an inherently good thing. True, there are no
maths, but I'm so used to playing L5R I instinctively add d10s when I
roll lots of 'em, and mentally translate 2 numbers to a percentile if
I'm rolling 2d10. Systems that are different to systems that a player
is used too feel slighly off or jarring...

We need a bit more context. What determines the number of dice in the
pool? Stat+skill?
Maybe you could equate the size of the numbers with "power" and the
number of matches with "finesse" or level of success. For example, I
throw a punch at Greg for inflicting yet another d10 system on the
world. I roll 1,1,5,7,7. I take the sevens. 2 matches is a bare
sucess in terms of actually hitting Greg, but 7 is a chunky enough
number. Call that a solid punch to Greg's body. Greg uses his vicious
ninja skillz and attacks me back. He rolls 3,4,5,5,5,5,8. He takes
the fives. Five is only an average result - but four matches is
*really* good. Greg pokes me in the eye, knocking me back into the
Abyss of Lost Dice.
