[UA] The Unexplained?

I would like to know whether the explanations for 'The Unexplained' in the core rulesbook are real world or just designed to look as such. Especially Cow Mutilation and Spontaneous Combustion sound interesting, but are these just products of your imagination, Mr. Stolze and Mr. Tynes, or do you have any actual sources for these theories?
