[UA] Medicine and Religion

I'm writing a scenario and I need a little help.

It's about a child who miraculously recovers from a terrible illness.
The plot requires that the child can't be examined by doctors, so I was
toying with making the parents members of some religious sect with
strong prejudices against modern medicine. 

Now, how much sense does this? I know there are sects whose beliefs
forbid certain types of medical intervention, but can somebody provide a
real world example? It would be easier for me if I have a start point.
