The term is 'illustrated novel.' A good example of the difference is to
look and see if the pictures supply information vital to the understanding
of the story. If you could cover them up and still understand the book,
then it's 'illustrated.'

Actually, my favorite is "DESTROY!" with the Red Basher and Captain Maximum
destroying every landmark in New York systematically over a dame...
