100 Bullets is perfect for UA, since it nicely describes the interplay
between a street level game and how the events there influence higher order
games. It has such a simple premise, that I thought it couldn't last a
year. But then--oh, sweet mother of God, it got gooooooood!

Planetary's good for showing you how to shake up genre. I want to have a
lot of my friends read it, but I think there's a fairly steep buy-in
involved. You ought to be familiar with certain details of various comics
universes, plus the Big Monster genre, plus Hong Kong Action films, etc.
Don't get me wrong--it's effin' brilliant on a BAD day, but I don't know how
many of the concepts translate if, for instance, you don't know what Crisis
on Infitine Earths was.
Preacher's great for run-of-the-mill weirdness, coupled with a few
gobstoppingly cool powermongers, and it wonderfully shows just how fragile
ego is.
