Imagine Indiana Jones meets the X-Files, and everyone has a Dark Flaw.
Mignola is well aware that his scripting talents are limited, but he _so_
wants to tell these stories himself, and I don't blame him. They're a lot
of fun. Moore and Miller are perhaps better wordsmiths, but Mignola's got a
great visual style, and a way of really creeping the hell out of you. His
work occasionally veers into the postmodern (the Bad Guys essentially
accidentally kill themselves at the end of one book, leaving the heroes
wondering, "What was that all about?") I like his crossover work quite a
bit--Bats-Starman-Hellboy was inspired, and the Ghost-Hellboy mini was
nifty, too.
