People that play UA with me for the first time usually enjoy the
pleasant change from my legendary Redneck: the Reckoning campaign.
Even if they don't like UA itself, they instinctively understand
that they have avoided an even greater taint. Just a few cats I've
played with didn't like UA. They were primarily miniatures gamers,
though, and I find that most of them require terribly
straightforward rules, and don't like the odd (cool) mechanics. Tone
hasn't been much of a problem. Nonetheless, this is my standard
procedure for initiating people into games they never knew they
wanted to play (like OTE and UA):

   * First off, cover your UA books with plain brown paper from a
     grocery bag.
   * Next, create some UA character sheets that say "Pandemonium" at
     the top, and tell them they're gonna play tabloid reporters.
   * Start feeding them shots.
   * Roleplay a wacky encounter with alien abductees.
   * Nachos.
   * Discover an informant that casts the abductions in whatever
     light is relevant to your game.
   * Feed them more shots.
   * Begin playing Johnny Cash at a barely audible volume.
   * Now they're ready to begin play.

If--for whatever reason--this is ineffective, you may have to
consider dosing your players with industrial ether. Consult your
local resources for availability and legality.
