There's a Philip K. Dick story remarkably similar to that.  Unfortunately, the name escapes me at the moment, but there's a guy who's supposed to be in cryogen sleep for an interstellar trip but isn't (malfunction) so the computer replays his memories for him and it drives him insane.  You, know, standard sort of PKD stuff. (though I could make pointless references here to Nietzsche, I won't)
