I have always respected any creativity GMs invest in their games. Unmitigated
hackfests are tedious and usually not very rewarding. But one of the things about
UA I find most appealing is the unapologetic stance on gratuitous and
psychopatheic violence. Games like UA and Feng Shui are well-designed and
intriguing--wasted on stories that are nothing but spastic brawls. But both are
cut with a rich and bloody acknowledgement that RPGs are often about power
fantasies, which are in turn about violence. Everybody has to be creative to keep
this stuff interesting and enjoyable, and that payoff for that investment is
definately worth it.
