I've had it done too.
Dentist: "I'll do this without anaesthetic. It's so minor the needle will hurt
more"
Me: "Can't I have a needle anyway?"
Dentist: "No, it's very minor"
<drilling sound>
Dentist: "Actually, now I've started it's a lot bigger than I thought"
<more drilling, along with muffled noises indicating pain and discomfort>

The thing I remember most is the smell of burning tooth filling my nostrils.
Strange how it always seems to be the minor things you notice most when in pain.
