    It does indeed.

    Incidentally, for anyone who is interested, getting your teeth drilled
without anaesthetic is an interesting sensation.  (Yes, I have needle
issues, why do you ask?)  There are tiny vibrations that radiate outward
from the drill, but they're not really painful.  The actual cutting away of
the tooth is slightly painful, but more accurately it's a sensation that
just doesn't compare to other sensations.  There's no way to say, oh, having
your living tooth carved by a swiftly-spinning drill feels just like this
other thing, because it doesn't.  So it registers as pain.  There's also
some heat involved, but it's not unbearable, more of a pinpoint warmness.
The pain comes when the drill hits a nerve.  A brief touch is just a flash
of pain, either hot or cold, your choice.  If you really think about it,
it's a kind of white-hot chill, except that the phrase makes no sense.
    I've never had the dentist grind away at the nerve, fortunately.
