When I was eleven, I fell out of a tree, caught my armpit on a broken
branch, gouging out a fair bit of flesh, and hung there screaming for a
few minutes. Notably, the pain was through my entire body, not just my
arm, and it lasted until I was given an injection at the hospital which
removed it entirely. I was stiched up and out of hospital by the next
day, but my right arm is still considerably weaker than my left, and it
pains me occasionally. Wounds hang around for a lot longer than
roleplaying game systems think.
If I was being cruelly realistic, I'd give a negative shift to someone's
next action *at least* equal to the wound they'd just taken, a la
GURPS.
