How about Tolkien's Sauron as a model for an evil Wounded King?
Throughout the "Lord of the Rings," he does nothing but seek the
cure of his "wound" -- the loss of the One Ring. Also, he is
physically wounded, and is missing a finger, lost when Isildur
cut it off to get the Ring. He is tied to his land of Mordor
in the evident way the whole place reflects his harsh, dark
spirit and obeys his will, even when his attention is not engaged.
He does not "give himself to the land" in the sacrificial sense
of improving the land, but he *does* invest his arcane powers in
his creations, notably the Ring, and is thereby weakened in himself,
the price for being able to control the thing he pours his power
into.
