I was almost thinking that Faeries are infants who were loved and wanted,
but who miscarried - it's the combination of the infant spirit's will to be
born and the longing of the mother for it to still be alive that brings it
into existence. 

This explains why there are fewer Fae spotted these days: lower birth
mortality.
