But, as many of the posts on this thread have mentioned, the fays 
can be construed as a branch of humanity.  They can even be made 
more human than demons or werewolves, if you like.

As for showy, the fays are ESSENTIALLY elusive -- it's their main 
theme in folklore -- and therefore the reverse of showy.  In 
her book on fairy folklore, Katherine Briggs called them "the 
vanishing people."
