[snip]

There are stories about my maternal grandmother. She was half Apache, and
my dad claims she had *strange powers*. I recall being in her "house"
(actually just a boxcar that had been dragged onto a lot and had walls put
in and some plumbing) when neighborhood girls would come over for help with
problem kids. My dad also tells stories about her putting an 'X' on a map
of the neighborhood and the people who lived in the crossed-out house
moving within a week. And other witchy stuff.
My mom swears that grandma is now a ghost looking out for her.

Me, I'm a skeptic who wants to believe. I think nothing would be cooler
than a world full of secret magic, hidden psychic powers, ghosts, aliens,
and all sorts of supernatural occurrences. I also don't believe in a
single one. I'd like to, but without unimpeachable evidence I can't and
won't.
