fair enough. sorry if i sounded like i was starting a shouting match or
something. it's been a busy week at the kneebreakers and i should be in bed.
but instead you lucky people get to hear my barely-coherent opinions :)

i can't speak for the american public, but the british public either get
confused and think we're something to do with battle reenactment, or burst
into laughetr and treat you like a freak for the next few hours. i'm not
saying i'm ashamed of my hobby, but i've ruined a fair few first dates by
actually telling the truth when they ask what i do in my spare time ("oh, i
generally spend my weekends being the high priest toltan") :)
there's certainly a set of roleplayers who are less nerdy than your standard
hack-n-slasher stereotype, and i hope i'm part of them, but let's face it,
we're all a bunch of geeks when it comes down to it

i think just about all roleplay could be described as "fantasy", by its very
nature. sure, it's not all orcs and elves, but just because UA has guns in
it doesn't make it any more real.
hmmm, i'm rambling again, and that wasn't even your point, was it?
i see what you mean, it is a shame that we all get pigeonholed as being one
"genre" when in fact we're just one "medium". though i think there isn't
anything like the range you find in movies or books within roleplaying
games, certainly in terms of audience.
