I see the HoR as a "karmic dry cleaner." (Or maybe a "dharmic
dry cleaner.")
You go there, and are freed/saved from all the sins and
ramifications that your drives have brought you-- at the cost of
that drive or obsession.
Thus, say a stone-cold killer escapes to the HoR while being
chased by a small army of the ghosts of his victims. He enters
the House, and is SAFE-- the ghosts go away, dwindle, give up...
or are satisfied, for the man who walks out of the House has had
his entire life's focus burned away, and is no longer the same
person.
The reversal effect is simply due to the dichotomy factor of
love and hate. Picture the yin-yang symbol. If Ahab hates
whales, enters the HoR, has his hatred burned away, there's a
void in him where his hatred used to be. with no hatred pressing
against it any longer, the love washes in and fills the void.
