[TRNSYS-users] Type 158 - Unstable temperatures

Dear TRNSYS users,

I have a question about Type 158 (vertical constant-volume storage tank
without immersed heat exchangers).

When reading the mathematical reference about Types 153 and 154, I found
that these Types execute "sub-time steps" when a node becomes hotter than
the node above it by the end of a time step.

When reading the information about Type 158, it is not so clear whether
this Type uses the same method. The description for Type 158 says the
following:

"At times, the nodes in the storage tank may become thermally unstable (a
node has a higher temperature than the node above). If this happens, the
model completely mix any nodes that are unstable at the end of the timestep
to avoid problems."

I want to know if Type 158 uses the same method as Types 153 and 154. If
not, does Type 158 mix the nodes at the end of the time step, when their
temperatures are already "unstable"?? Or does it repeat the time step with
both nodes being mixed?

Kind regards,

Adrian Riebel
