[TRNSYS-users] solar cell performance

Hello TRNSYS users and David,

First of all, David thanks a lot for your advice for comparing type 194 and PV T collectors under electrical library ( TESS). In my system it only shows [1. Interactions with detailed building models (type 563) 2. Interactions with simple building model (type 560)]

I have noticed following things

  1. Efficiency of type 563 is very low about 1.5% (thermal + electrical) from its output and also stayed same by using an external equation. (Does anyone else face this problem?)

  2. Type 560 and type 563 don’t have parameters such as “Module short-circuit current at reference conditions” as in case of type 194. (that’s why I don’t think, it’s a good idea to compare the type 563 efficiency with type 194) (Any suggestions?)

I am using TRNSYS 17 and (0.4 component mathematical reference does not includes type 563 and 560), I looked online and just got TESSlib_17_general_discription. Can anyone suggest link for Mathematical description of Type 563 and type 560?

Thanks in advance!!

Best Regards,

Sandeep Chahal

Sandeep,
I would steer you towards comparing against the PV/T collectors that are available in the TESS Electrical library if possible instead of Type50.
kind regards,
 David

Hi David,

Thanks for answer and suggestion! Actually, I am trying to compare the performance of simple PV ( type 194) and PV/T collector type ( type 50E thats only the one which is providing the power output).

The problem that I am facing while using type 50E is that it accepts properties of a single cell

\Trnsys17\Examples\Data Files\Type50-SolCel.dat file. rather then whole panel. I have contacted manufacturers but no luck.

can you recommend any link where I can find properties for a single cell?

Thanks,

Sandeep,
the SolarCellPerformance() subroutine contains some code that allows it to model both standard flat plate and concentrating PV collectors. CL and CH refer to values of the concentration ratio; the ratio of the aperture area to the absorber area. Ao is a coefficient that is used in the concentrating PV collector model. Values for certain panels are given in the \Trnsys17\Examples\Data Files\Type50-SolCel.dat file.

I might mention as a side note that unless you absolutely have to use a call to the SolarCellPerformance() subroutine, I would recommend that you rely much more on the PV modeling methods in Types94 and 194. They are much more up to date modeling algorithms.

kind regards,
 David

Hello TRNSYS users,

 In 07-programmers Guide

Section 7.4.4.14. Solar Cell Performance ( formerly SOLCEL)

CL - a low reference concentration ( what does concentration refer here?)

CH - high reference concentration ( what does concentration refer here? )

AOMIN - Value of Ao. at concentration of 0 ( what does Ao stands for ? )

DAODC - slope of Ao. VS concentration curve ( what does Ao stands for here? )

        Thanks in advance!
