Ok, I remember going through this and having the same problem.

What you need to do first is go to TRNBuild and export your file (e.g. call is "test.idf"). 
Then open this file in Sketchup and make the necessary modifications (by making sure to double click on the zone before making changes). Then save these changes to test.idf file.
Now make sure that any open trnbuild windows are closed, before opening a fresh window from the windows menu. Then go to File --> Import TRNSYS 3d file... Import the idf file you modified: this will create a test.b17 file

Now when you click on "external files" tab after double clicking on your type 56 in the simulation studio, you can browse for your newly made test.b17 file, which will be your updated version.

This should work for you now,
