[TRNSYS-users] Data center electrical supply heat gain simulation

Johnson,
Apologies for the delay in responding. There are a number of generic
models in TRNSYS that would suit your needs (such as Type42, or even a
simple equation). The difficulty that you face is in obtaining realistic
information from the manufacturer of the transformers, UPS, and PDU.
They should be able to give you some information about the heat
generated by their equipment under normal operating conditions,
including standby mode which you will need when the data center is
running at part load (incidentally, I have never seen this situation!
Data centers that I have run across basically use the same amount of
energy and dump the same amount of heat into the space all the time!)

Once you obtain the performance and efficiency of the equipment at
part load then you need to add a gain to the Type56 zone that represents
your data center. You can specify the gain either as a schedule in
TRNBuild or as an input.
Best,
  David
