Unfortunately, no, it cannot. The workaround that I have used is to
create a number of *.b17 files, each with an insulation thickness that I
want to test, and then to run a parametric study.
Michael Kummert also came up with a method that allows some
optimization of Type56 variables using GenOpt. There is a link to the
