<I am currently trying to model a solar thermal plant using TRNSYS. My
question is regarding connection of a solar collector to a heat exchanger
and then to the equation component to calculate the output power of the
system. Is it neccessary to connect the heat exchanger to the equation
model to obtain resutls on amount of power generated? If so could anyone
advise on the connections? >

Well you'll have to remove the energy from the collector loop that is
being transferred across the heat exchanger or you won't get the right
answer. If you don't use a heat exchanger model then your equations block
will have to calculate the temperature of the fluid returning to the
collector based on the amount of energy removed from the fluid to generate
power.
