Fred,

The TMY3 now has "Liquid precipitation depth" and "liquid precipitation
quantity" (ref. www.nrel.gov/docs/fy08osti/43156.pdf). The next version of
TRNSYS will have a Type15 that will be able to read TMY3. In the mean
time, you could simply use a Type9 data reader after you obtain the data.

Cheers,

Matt

Subject:[TRNSYS-users] TRNSYS Rain Water Collection

Has anyone ever modeled a rain water collection system in TRNSYS?

Also, do the existing weather files support this type of simulation? If
not, do you
know where I might find hourly rain data?

On one weather file I was able to get (Sterling, VA, USA), there is a
"Precipitable
Water" value that doesn't have any units.

I looked up precipitable water online and got the definition, "A quantity
of water
available in the atmosphere in a column".

That to me does not mean an amount of rain, but a potential amount of rain.

Any help would be appreciated.

Fred
