Kiki,
Normally, the radiation will always be a positive value or zero. In
some rare cases of using measured data, data files can have very tiny
negative values of radiation in them (due to callibrartion of the
sensor). The equation is extraneous for almost all cases - I rarely
include such an equation in my simulations - it is just a safety measure
in case there is something wrong with the data.
