Dear Mr. Kbaier,
  TRNSYS would certainly be an appropriate tool for thermal and mechanical design of SDHW systems. A demo is available from http://sel.me.wisc.edu/trnsys.
 
  There is also a TRNSYS-based stand-alone application for solar water heating that is available from 
 
http://www.eere.energy.gov/buildings/building_america/rh_0505_toolpredicts.html
this tool will do more to assess SDHW potential and will not allow as much flexibility in designing systems.
