Ümit,
I have used that approach when faced with materials that are too thin or
which do not have enough thermal capacity for conduction transfer
function coefficients to be generated. If the material is transparent or
translucent, you could also consider defining it as a window. Lawrence
Berkeley National Lab's Window 5 program is pretty good at handling such
things.
