I know of 3 sources for "Typical weather data files" for the UK:

- 32 weather data files for the UK are distributed with TRNSYS (you need to
install the optional weather data package to get all of them). These files
were created with Meteonorm, which uses sophisticated algorithms to generate
hourly data from recorded monthly values. They are directly readable by
Type15 (and also Type89 and Type109 if you really want). You can also
purchase the Meteonorm program and use it to generate similar data files for
any location in the world if the 1000 locations distributed with TRNSYS are
not enough (use the TMY2 format and Type15). 

- The IWEC data, published by ASHRAE, has Typical years for 6 locations in
the UK. The files are available for download on the EnergyPlus website in
the EPW format (which TRNSYS reads): http://tinyurl.com/3x8nfp

- Another (more expensive) data source is the CIBSE TMY/DSY files:

You can read them directly in TRNSYS if you use a Type9+Type16 combination
and you can also read them using Type15, e.g. after converting them to the
EPW or TMY2 format.
 

Regarding the use of your own recorded data, it can be done easily with
Type9 but you will also need to read-in measured solar radiation data if
your system needs it as an input (e.g. if you have a building in the
simulation). If you need (and have) radiation data then again you have the
choice between Type9 + Type16, Type15 (after conversion to e.g. EPW or TMY2)
or Type109 (with the "user format").
