David/Jeff,
You and Jeff both had similar responses I am currently using an extract of
TMY2 for annual simulations and experimental data set for other simulations.
I have changed my simulation start time to the new standard.
I have considered using the canned mode of type 89 to read in the TMY data,
but did not find a TYPE 15 in the documentation. Could you point me to
this.
I probably have some differing concerns about some of the types than other
users, but here are my considerations:
1. For TMY, I really only need about 5 fields or so. Will
reading the entire file (even if I only use a few fields) impose a
performance slow down?
2. For Type 69, I've considered using this as well, but as
I recall, it doesn't handle IR that I need when not using TMY data. I'm
currently using a similar routine that has this mode.
If there is a good quick way to combine this all into one type, then I would
consider it. However, I will still be using custom data sets, so I will
still need to know how to make sure that I've set up type 9 correctly,
although I will typically not need type 16 in these cases.

If you are reading a standard TMY file (either TMY, TMY2, or the old TRNSYS
TMY format), I would suggest that you replace Type9 with Type15. Type15
combines the functionality of Type89 (which reads standard format files such
as TMY2 and TRNSYS TMY) with Type16 and Type69. It avoids some of the
problems of setting Type16 parameters correctly and of making connections
between those components. Also, be sure that you changed the start time of
your simulation. The TRNSYS 15 convention was that the start time was the
hour of the year at the end of the first time step (although often you had
to tweak this around to get it to actually work correctly). In TRNSYS 16,
the start time is the hour of the year at the beginning of the first time
step. I hope that helps.

I have tried various modes and get similar errors. If I add one "starter"
line to the TMY file and change to mode 5/6, I get fewer radiation errors.
I also looked at type 16 and it appeared that this changed as well:

It appears that the smooth mode is no longer used and the last parameter
should be -1. Looking at the documentation, it was unclear what inputs 3
and 4 should be as they are listed as 19,20 in type 16, but the older
convention of 99,100 is still indicated in the type 9 documentation.
Do you have any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong?
