[TRNSYS-users] PARAMETRIC STUDIES

Bertrand,
   The basic idea is that you have to open your
simulation in TRNEdit and select "New Table" from
the Parametrics menu. TRNSED will scan through
your input file and find all CONSTANTS statements
then allow you to select which CONSTANTS are
going to be parametrized in the table. The
concept of CONSTANTS is a little confusing
sometimes for users most familiar with the Studio
but a CONSTANT is simply a simple equation. If
you have created a simple equation in your Studio
project that sets the value of a constant (called
MyVariable in this example), the Studio will have written:

EQUATIONS 1
MyVariable = 45

in your input file. You would need to replace that in TRNEdit with:

CONSTANTS 1
MyVariable = 45

before TRNEdit would realize that the variable could be parametrized.

Once you have created the table, you select "Run
Table" from the TRNSYS menu and TRNSYS will run
repeatedly with all of the combinations of
variables in your table. The other thing to keep
in mind is that you should either set all of your
printers to "append mode" (one of the parameters)
or you should make sure that all of your output
files have the same name as your input file
(*.dck). When running a parametric table,
TRNEdit automatically duplicates all output files
that have the same name as the input file and it
overwrites any output file that does not. By
setting printers to "append" though, you can avoid the overwrite.
Cheers,
  David
