Dear friends,
Often when I think of this amazing FTS list, the words "Mi k'amcha Yisrael?"
come to mind. This is especially true when I look back on the kindness you
have shown to my cousin Berel's widow Chavie, mother, bli ayin hara, of 13
children. (If you missed the original post, please see below.)
In the midst of the heartache, I shared with you back in May the wonderful
news that Berel's daughter had become a kallah. The wedding date, b'sha'ah
tovah, is approaching (November 28, a date chosen so that all family members
would no longer be in aveilus).
Well, I just got a sobering call from my cousin Shmuel (Berel's cousin too).
He just heard from Berel's close friend that Chavie - too embarrassed to
tell us - is distraught because she lacks sufficient funds to pay for the
wedding and the young couple's basic needs as they start their life together.
Of course, we cousins (unfortunately, virtually all the aunts and uncles are
no longer with us) are going to do all we can without delay. If you can
help in any way at all, I beseech you to send your tax-deductible donation
(every penny will go to help this orphaned kallah) to:
Congregation Shomrei Hadas

Gratefully,
Chavi Willig Levy
Original post:
Shalom, all. Chavi Willig Levy here. As many of you know, I have been
blessed with a large extended family, bli ayin hara, including a raft full of
cousins. For as long as I can remember, a favorite cousin was Berel Weiss.
We were as different as night and day: I a college-educated, "liberated"
female raised on a misnaged track, he a Bobover chasid through and through. But
our differences mattered not a whit to either of us. I lit up whenever I
saw him, payos and all, his warm smile melting any shred of pessimism that
might have crossed my path. His acceptance was unconditional; never did I detect
in him a sign of discomfort regarding my disability or of judgment regarding
our religious differences.
I remember his wedding as if it were yesterday. He was 20 years old in 1974
when he stood under the chuppah with his kallah, Chavie. I was 22, a Chavi
who would not stand under the chuppah for nearly a decade more. But if I
ever felt despair, I always had Berel and his eishes chayil to bolster me with
their optimism and emunah. They welcomed Michael into the family with open
arms. They were overjoyed when Tehilah and Aharon, bli ayin hara, arrived on
the scene.
Berel came to Aharon's bar mitzvah melaveh malkah in November 2004, even
though it was difficult for us to attend the many simchas that arose since the
birth of his and Chavie's 13 children, bli ayin hara.
Who would have dreamed that, within a year, he would be gone? Who could
have known, when he had told no one that he had been ill for eight years?
For over four decades, my cousin Berel davened that I, Chava Ita bas Ella,
be granted a refuah shleimah. As Pesach approaches, I am writing to ask you
to join me as I repay my debt.
A fund has been established to support Berel's widow and children. Any
amount that you can donate will go directly to support them. Your contribution is
tax-deductible and can be mailed to:
Congregation Shomrei Hadas
c/o Rabbi Shmuel Gross
1328 E. 9th Street
Brooklyn, NY 11230
Auf simchas and many thanks,
Chavi Willig Levy

Hi! I thought you'd like to know that _www.aish.com_ (http://www.aish.com/)
has just published an essay of mine:
_http://www.aish.com/societyWork/society/A_Tale_of_Two_Circuses.asp_
(http://www.aish.com/societyWork/society/A_Tale_of_Two_Circuses.asp)
If the spirit moves you, please post a comment at the bottom of the article.
The more readers' comments they get, the better my chances for more
assignments - and a pay hike from the paltry sum they now offer. So if you feel
like sharing the link with friends, I'd appreciate it!
Gratefully,
Chavi

Please take out a few moments and say some tehillim (psalms) for the Israeli
chayalim (soldiers) & for everyone living in Israel. Israel also has eight
soldiers in enemy captivity, namely:
Gilad ben Aviva (Shalit), captured just outside Gaza on June 25 of this year;
Ehud ben Malka (Goldwasser) and Eldad ben Tova (Regev), captured on the
Israeli-Lebanese border July 12 of this year;
Guy ben Rina (Hever), disappeared near the Syrian-Israeli border in the
Golan Heights in August 1997;
Ron ben Batya (Arad), captured when his plane was downed over Lebanon in
Oct. 1986;
Tzvi ben Pninah (Feldman), Yekutiel Yehuda Nachman ben Sarah (Katz), and
