Attached is this week's NASMHPD Weekly Update, in which we review:

(1) the findings of a new NRI/NASMHPD survey of states on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on State Mental Health Agencies and their programs and providers;

(2) the details of the 9-8-8 suicide prevention and crisis hotline legislation signed by President Trump last Saturday;

(3) a new CDC warning that individual short personal interactions cumulatively totaling 15 minutes or more with symptomatic or asymptomatic persons infected with COVID-19 may be just as problematic as a single 15-minute exposure with infected person(s);

(4) a widely observed phenomenon that preteens, having been confronted with the quarantining and social isolation resulting from the pandemic, are showing a reluctance to leave their homes;

(5) a University of Arizona/Boeing study finding that existing methods for deep-cleaning the interior of aircraft seem capable of expunging the COVID-19 virus;

(6) tips from the CDC on trick-or-treating during the pandemic;

(7) this week's Crisis Now Crisis Talk discussion with Dr. Rochelle Head-Dunham, executive and medical director for the Metropolitan Human Services District in New Orleans, who notes that the pandemic has made it impossible to deny the existence of racial disparities in health care;

(8) details of upcoming webinars from the Families for Depression Awareness and the National Center on Domestic Violence, Trauma, and Mental Health;

(9) how North Dakota addressed barriers to care within its communities by integrating telehealth with electronic health records; and

(10) a change in the scheduling of Advancing States' annual HCBS conference in December, and the movement of the conference to a virtual setting.

We hope you find this information useful.

Have a good weekend and ...
