Attached is this week's NASMHPD Weekly Update, with information on:
(1) Provisions of the House Appropriations Committee's funding for Labor-HHS which would establish a 5% set aside for crisis services in the Mental Health Block Grant and increase the MHBG by $35M to pay for that set-aside;
(2) Provisions of the same funding measure which would require states to report on MHBG impact and outcomes for racial and ethnic minorities and require reporting on outreach to hire providers who are members of racial and ethnic minorities;
(3) Unanimous passage by the Federal Communications Commission of the designation of 988 as a three-digit dialing code for the Suicide Prevention Lifeline, with telecom companies given two years to implement the number;
(4) A new study revealing that the rate of suicide among people with a diagnosis of schizophrenia spectrum disorder is 170 times higher than for the general population;
(5) A Crisis Now Crisis Talk discussion with Behavioral Health Link's Megan Gleason on working with the FBI to better serve individuals in crisis; and
(6) A July 30 NASMHPD/Mental Health America webinar on best practices in navigating HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
We hope you find this information useful.
Have a great weekend and ..
