Good Afternoon --

This week's NASMHPD Weekly Update includes:

(1) News of SAMHSA's release of National Guidelines on Crisis Services, which take the form of a toolkit, and a Crisis Now CrisisTalk column that discusses the new guidelines;

(2) Details of testimony provided by HHS Secretary Azar in two Congressional budget subcommittee hearings this week;

(3) Findings of a study of suicidal ideation among younger children, and their parents' lack of awareness of those feelings/experiences;

(4) Details of a recently published Health Affairs blog by SCAN Foundation CEO and former MedPAC Vice Chair Bruce Chernof and Administration for Community Living Administrator Lance Robertson on partnering with networks of Community-Based Organizations to address social determinants of health;

(5) Speaking of social determinants, our Links of Interest (actually our Additional Links of Interest) include a link to a National Academies report issued within the last hour on Social Isolation and Loneliness Among Older Adults
( https://www.nap.edu/download/25663) ; and

(6) Those same Additional Links of Interest include a New York Times column Mental Health Researchers Ask: What is Recovery?
( https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/25/health/mental-health-depression-recovery.html?te=1&nl=science-times&emc=edit_sc_20200225&campaign_id=34&instance_id=16263&segment_id=21596&user_id=35c38d711f8c25724d7943465ed7f3ff&regi_id=6046572220200225) which we think you'll find especially interesting.

There are also a number of new webinars of interest, and notice of an upcoming Center for Disease Prevention Funding Opportunity Announcement related to state grants for Preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences.

We hope you find this information helpful and of interest.

Have an enjoyable  weekend.
