Good Afternoon -
Attached is this week's issue of the NASMHPD Weekly Update with:
(1) More details on that Medicaid block grant demonstration option
proposed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services last week,
and the reception it has received from patient and provider advocacy
groups and Congressional Democrats;
(2) Information on a study finding that suicide risk is higher in ED
patients admitted for self-harm one year following discharge and a
related Crisis Now Crisis Talk discussion with Dr. David Jobes, Director
of Catholic University’s Suicide Prevention Laboratory;
(3) Details on a study done by Boston-area researchers with the largest
cohort of insured opioid abuse disorder patients ever studied that
determines that the use of buprenorphine and methadone are more
effective than six other pathways for treatment, including naltrexone,
in preventing overdoses and subsequent acute care episodes;
(4) A new funding opportunity announcement (FOA) from the Department of
Justice and a significant number of ongoing SAMHSA and National
Institute of Mental Health FOAs for which the submission deadlines are
still open; and
(5) Announcements of the March 2 to 4 National Association of County
Behavioral Health and Developmental Disability Directors Annual
Legislative and Policy Conference on Capitol Hill and the July 26 to 28
NASMHPD Commissioner-Only Annual Conference in Arlington Virginia.
We hope you find this information useful.
Have a good weekend.
