Good Afternoon --

Attached is this week's NASMHPD Weekly Update, with the following information included in its 43 pages:

(1) a request from the NASMHPD Research Institute for the submission of information to be included in a new 2020 State Mental Health Agency Profiles compilation;
(2) information on a Finnish study finding no association between long-term antipsychotic use and the likelihood that a patient will experience severe somatic illness leading to hospitalization;
(3) data from another study that found that 20 percent of adults with Major Depression Disorder experience suicidal ideation despite treatment with SSRI or tricyclic antidepressants;
(4) a link to a Crisis Now CrisisTalk blog on how New Jersey is using a newly-launched Psychiatric Advance Directive Registry; 
(5) the publication by the HHS Assistant Secretary of Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) of a new environmental scan of state regulations governing residential treatment for behavioral health conditions;
(6) a story on a Pennsylvania Supreme Court case reviewing primary care physicians' duty to protect where they have failed to involuntarily commit a violent behavioral health patient;
(7) information on the Health Resources and Services Administration's Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students, and technical assistance being provided  next month for those individuals interested in those scholarships;
(8) a wide array of NASMHPD links of interest, including a link to a brand new SAMHSA resource showing the grants awarded to each state in 2019; 
(9) a notice from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force that they are seeking nominations, due March 15, for new members;
(10) newly scheduled webinars from the SAMHSA GAINS Center and the SMI Advisor; and 
(11) two new Funding Opportunity Announcements from SAMHSA relating to the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention and Comprehensive Opioid Recovery Centers.
