Yes - good point Brian about LAKE/WELL loops not supported in DOE-2.3. Note that you can still add a GROUND-LOOP-HX of TYPE: LAKE/WELL to a WLHP loop in DOE-2.3.

Note that Bill's solution is for 2.3 where the loop type "well" has been removed as a requirement for the loop-to-loop heat pump ... and has been removed from the DOE-2.3 entirely.

Hi Jeff,

For the CW-LOOP of your LOOP-TO-LOOP-HP chiller(s), use a WLHP loop. Assuming your HP chiller is water-cooled, you then connect boilers and heat-rejection to the loop. If the HP chiller is air-cooled, you can't use the LOOP-TO-LOOP-HP type.
You may choose to model the preheat and reheat coils as separate HW loops. If you model them as additional primary HW loops, you would serve them with the boilers per the design. Or you can model secondary HW loops off of the LOOP-TO-LOOP-HP HW loop.

Dear eQUEST Brain Trust:

I am trying to model a chilled water heat pump using the "loop to loop" approach and have reached a point where I know not where to go...

The rules call for the heat pump condenser to be linked to a Lake/Well loop. The system also has boilers attached to the system preheat coil and to the zone reheat coils, in a sort of supplemental format for when the HP chiller cannot meet set points.
I can create all the loops, with associated pumps, yet the lake/well loop requires a heat source. I cannot determine how to do that (after hours and hours!), or if I am missing something.

Does anyone know of a procedure for modeling this situation (besides the eQUEST help pages)? I wonder if the boilers may be part of the issue.
