[Equest-users] Ground Source Heat Pump in Parametric Run

I want to say, but not guarantee (a dummy model to test is probably appropriate), that you can go through the motions of setting up a GLHX and loop and have that exist “inert” in your model with some nominal circulation/loads to avoid throwing errors, then use parametric runs to manipulate what loop(s) are engaged on a given system type compatible with other loop types.

That said, this advantage/efficiency that comes with keeping everything within one energy model for parametric runs may come with a critical drawback in terms of limiting which SYSTEMS you can still use that’ll be compatible with all loop types present. Again, worthy of a dummy model exploration before investing too heavily. David’s suggestion, which I would characterize as a split of “parametric vs. series-model analysis,” is absolutely a path I’ve taken as well and may be the obvious fall-back. I might suggest weighing whether to perform the “split” before vs. after other parametric runs by considering potential for interactive effects and the likelihood of this GLHX run requiring edits/revision in the future. “Series-model” analysis carries a time/efficiency risk of “breaking” results for any subsequent analyses that depend and interact upon those results, so I am inclined to place and characterize such runs towards the end if I feel their final inclusion is questionable or if they are likely to require a lot of rework/runs, at least while in development.

Kind regards,

~Nick

That might be a structural change to the model that’s too much to account for in parametric analysis.

Since the inputs for the geothermal field are so detailed one approach here would be to run the parametric analysis for all of the features you want to evaluate inside the building’s boundary and then take the last model incorporating all of the recommended changes and building the geothermal run off of that model.

Subject: [Equest-users] Ground Source Heat Pump in Parametric Run

Hello Guys,

I am modeling a building with water source heat pump and cooling tower and the client needs to know the energy consumption difference if he change the cooling tower with ground source geothermal wells.

The problem is I could not find the ground source geothermal in the parametric run as you can see in the screenshot below. Does anybody can help me out on this? How to select ground sources geothermal in the parametric run?

Thanking you in advance for any help.
