Hi Sunayana,

As per US Department of energy survey i have found out one special thing
regarding the energy cost for heating during the winter season.
The chart is as follows:

So as per this in USA the highest cost is incurred during electrical
heating during the winter season and the lowest cost is incurred bu natural
gas then heating oil during winter season in USA. The cost is in $ per
MMBtu.
On an average it is found that natural gas is the cheapest and the
electrical heating is the costliest. I have less knowledge regarding the
database of USA so you can infer more details on some other hand.
In addition to it the efficiency of electrical boiler is always higher than
the gas or oil fueled.
As per my industrial knowledge also natural gas is highly consumed and USA
is the largest consumer of natural gas.

*Thanks,*
Sharad.

Subject: [Equest-users] Multi-Family Building DHW

All,

We are working on an energy model of a high-rise multi-family building in
the New Jersey climate zone. This project will be using high efficiency
in-unit electric water heaters (0.95 EF) for DHW requirements.

As per the latest code (ASHRAE 90.1-2013 Appendix G), baseline DHW system
for a multi-family building has to be a gas storage water heater. As I
understand, there will be a significant energy cost penalty for using
electric fuel versus natural gas in the design for DHW.

Has anyone encountered similar situation?

Thanks,
