Hi Mike:
Many may differ with me, but here is my approach.
To begin with, it depends on who you are doing the model savings for. If it is a
utility (to obtain incentives) or a governmental body (IE, California Title-24,
ASHRAE 90.1-20-You Name it), there may a certain base model you need to run,
with fixed parameters, etc.
But for free flow, existing versus improved, you need only run a Base Case of
the actual building, match it as best as you can to actual bills (I won't even
get into weather true up), then put in your EEMs (ECMs, ECOs, etc) and determine
savings.
So it sounds like you are doing similar things as we do. So there is my simple
approach.

Subject: [Equest-users] equest modeling basics
Can someone explain the basic terminology of the equest modeling.
Right now I do alot of commercial energy audits for existing buildings that
usually need improvements on lighting, hvac systems and building envelope.
Spreadsheets and parameter writing Based on ASHRAE 90.1.2004 or 2007 is usually
what i do to show savings, yet as I Move into more complex projects, I would
like to do more modeling.
I have entered some sample existing buildings into equest, and want to know a
basic answer to how many models are needed for one building to prove savings.
Could some one explain the definitions -In ASHRAE 90.1.2004 that defines them ,
yet I am confused on how many models needed.
Baseline building design
Baseline building performance
Proposed Building performance
Would I need 3 models of one building?1.the current condition of existing
building model
2.The 90.1 2004 ASHRAE model or minimum standards
3. Proposed energy improvement model
of energy retrofits proposed.
thanks in Advance
