Alan,
Here's a description of the BEPS report fields:
Volume 1: Basics <volume1basics.htm> > Appendices <appendices.htm> > B.
Basic Output Reports <bbasicoutputreports.htm>
REPORT BEPS: BUILDING ENERGY PERFORMANCE
This report makes it possible to quickly review annual building energy use
according to energy type (electricity, natural gas, etc.) and category of
use (lights, space heating, space cooling, etc.). For direct comparison of
end uses, all energy quantities are expressed in the same units. A related
report, BEPU, gives the same information as the BEPS report, but in utility
units.
The use categories are as follows:
1. LIGHTS
All lighting energy other than defined using the task light keywords.
2. TASK LIGHTS
All lighting energy defined using the task light keywords.
3. MISC EQUIP
Energy defined using the SPACE EQUIP keyords. Also energy defined in the
*-METER INTERIOR-POWER keywords.
4. SPACE HEATING
All energy used to heat a zone, other than the supplemental heat of a heat
pump, and other than the auxiliary power consumed by a furnace
5. SPACE COOLING
All energy used to cool a zone, other than energy used for heat-rejection,
and crankcase heating
6. HEAT REJECT
All energy used to reject heat from a cooling process, such as cooling tower
fans and DX condenser fans, but excluding pumping energy for spray pumps.
7. PUMPS & AUX
All pumping energy, all energy defined using any auxiliary energy keywords
(such as for a boiler, chiller, or furnace), crankcase heat of DX equipment,
and humidification energy.
8. VENT FANS
All fan energy used to move air into or out of a space.
9. REFRIG DISPLAY
All energy consumed by refrigeration systems, except for heat rejected to a
condenser water loop (which falls into HEAT REJECT category).
10. HT PUMP SUPPLEM
Supplemental heat for a heat pump (used when ambient too cold, or load too
large for heat pump compressor to handle)
11. DOMEST HOT WTR
Energy consumed to heat domestic water
12. EXT USAGE
Energy consumed using the meter level EXTERIOR-POWER keywords.
Bottom section of report
1. TOTAL SITE ENERGY
is the overall annual energy use at the building site for all energy types
and categories of use.
2. TOTAL SOURCE ENERGY
is the annual energy at point of production used to produce the energy at
the building site. Site and source energy are also given per unit of gross
area (the value of GROSS-AREA in the BUILD-PARAMETERS command in LOADS) and
per unit of net area, which is the sum of the floor areas of conditioned
zones. Note that if GROSS-AREA is not specified it defaults to net area.
3. PERCENT OF HOURS ANY SYSTEM ZONE OUTSIDE OF THROTTLING RANGE
is the percentage of hours when any zone is being conditioned that the zone
air temperature is too high (zone is undercooled) or too low (zone is
underheated). This is a measure of the HVAC systems ability to hold zone
thermostat setpoints.
4. PERCENT OF HOURS ANY PLANT LOAD NOT SATISFIED
is the percentage of hours that the central plant cannot meet the demand on
the plant from the secondary systems. A large percentage here usually means
that one or more pieces of primary equipment (boiler, chiller, etc.) is
undersized.
It should be pointed out that this report is not designed to work when there
is a steam turbine among the specified plant equipment items. The numbers
reported when a steam turbine is present will not be reliable.
When a hot storage tank is present, a note is printed on the BEPS
reportstating that the hot water storage tank can get energy from many
sources.
Any time there is residual energy in the storage tanks, the totals in the BEPS
report will not agree with those in report PS-B, because the BEPS
reportincludes only the energy used for the above categories, whereas
PS-B
includes the energy that is left in the tanks as well.
