BUILDING ENERGY PERFORMANCE </h3>
<p class="MsoBodyText">This <font style="background-color: rgb(49, 106, 197);" color="#ffffff">report</font> makes it possible to quickly review annual building
energy use according to energy type (electricity, natural gas, etc.) and
category of use (lights, space heating, space cooling, etc.). For direct
comparison of end uses, all energy quantities are expressed in the same units. A
related <font style="background-color: rgb(49, 106, 197);" color="#ffffff">report</font>,
BEPU, gives the same information as the <font style="background-color: rgb(49, 106, 197);" color="#ffffff">BEPS report</font>, but in utility units. </p>
<p class="MsoBodyText">The use categories are as follows:</p>
<p style="margin-left: 36pt;" class="MsoListNumberCxSpFirst"><span style="font-family: 'Tms Rmn','serif';">1.
</span>LIGHTS<br>All lighting energy other than defined using the task light
keywords.</p>
<p style="margin-left: 36pt;" class="MsoListNumberCxSpMiddle"><span style="font-family: 'Tms Rmn','serif';">2.
</span>TASK LIGHTS<br>All lighting energy defined using the task light
keywords.</p>
<p style="margin-left: 36pt;" class="MsoListNumberCxSpMiddle"><span style="font-family: 'Tms Rmn','serif';">3.
</span>MISC EQUIP<br>Energy defined using the SPACE EQUIP keyords. Also energy
defined in the *-METER INTERIOR-POWER keywords.</p>

</span>SPACE HEATING<br>All energy used to heat a zone, other than the
supplemental heat of a heat pump, and other than the auxiliary power consumed by

</span>PUMPS & AUX<br>All pumping energy, all energy defined using any

</span>VENT FANS<br>All fan energy used to move air into or out of a space.</p>

</span>REFRIG DISPLAY<br>All energy consumed by refrigeration systems, except
for heat rejected to a condenser water loop (which falls into HEAT REJECT
category).</p>

</span>TOTAL SITE ENERGY<br>is the overall annual energy use at the building
site for all energy types and categories of use.</p>
<p style="margin-left: 36pt;" class="MsoListNumberCxSpMiddle"><span style="font-family: 'Tms Rmn','serif';">2.
</span>TOTAL SOURCE ENERGY<br>is the annual energy at point of production used
to produce the energy at the building site. Site and source energy are also
given per unit of gross area (the value of GROSS-AREA in the BUILD-PARAMETERS
command in LOADS) and per unit of net area, which is the sum of the floor areas
of conditioned zones. Note that if GROSS-AREA is not specified it defaults to
net area.</p>
<p style="margin-left: 36pt;" class="MsoListNumberCxSpMiddle"><span style="font-family: 'Tms Rmn','serif';">3.
</span>PERCENT OF HOURS ANY SYSTEM ZONE OUTSIDE OF THROTTLING RANGE<br>is the
percentage of hours when any zone is being conditioned that the zone air
temperature is too high (zone is undercooled) or too low (zone is underheated).
This is a measure of the HVAC systems ability to hold zone thermostat
setpoints.</p>
<p style="margin-left: 36pt;" class="MsoListNumberCxSpLast"><span style="font-family: 'Tms Rmn','serif';">4.
</span>PERCENT OF HOURS ANY PLANT LOAD NOT SATISFIED<br>is the percentage of
hours that the central plant cannot meet the demand on the plant from the
secondary systems. A large percentage here usually means that one or more pieces
of primary equipment (boiler, chiller, etc.) is undersized. </p>
<p class="MsoBodyText">It should be pointed out that this <font style="background-color: rgb(49, 106, 197);" color="#ffffff">report</font> is not designed to
work when there is a steam turbine among the specified plant equipment items.
The numbers <font style="background-color: rgb(49, 106, 197);" color="#ffffff">reported</font> when a steam turbine is present will not be
reliable. </p>
<p class="MsoBodyText">When a hot storage tank is present, a note is printed on
the <font style="background-color: rgb(49, 106, 197);" color="#ffffff">BEPS report</font>
stating that the hot water storage tank can get energy from many sources. Any
time there is residual energy in the storage tanks, the totals in the <font style="background-color: rgb(49, 106, 197);" color="#ffffff">BEPS report</font> will not
agree with those in <font style="background-color: rgb(49, 106, 197);" color="#ffffff">report</font> PS-B, because the <font style="background-color: rgb(49, 106, 197);" color="#ffffff">BEPS report</font> includes only
the energy used for the above categories, whereas PS-B includes the energy that
is left in the tanks as well.</p>
