We are pleased to announce the call for research papers for SimBuild 2026. Full papers are due on October 27, 2025, and submissions are open to anyone to submit a paper. Please visit the SimBuild 2026 Call For Submissions page<https://ibpsa.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=545ecdecc811a6e412a8810dd&id=53a6e0728a&e=917b2c9c3c> for guidelines, abstract and paper templates, and key dates. SimBuild 2026 will include multiple formats of presentations to encourage discussions and exchange of ideas as well as pre-conference events. A call for oral presentations and panel discussions will be made in January 2026.

The theme of SimBuild 2026 highlights IBPSA’s ongoing and future mission: Getting From Models to Reality by Bridging Simulation and Operational Performance. We seek papers demonstrating innovation in methods, workflows, and modeling tools for better building design, performance, and operation to meet aggressive targets for energy reduction, affordability, reliability, and resiliency.

"How to Write a Great Building Simulation Research Paper", featuring Shady Attia, Ph.D.

Building performance simulation addresses key aspects of the United Nations sustainable development goals<https://ibpsa.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=545ecdecc811a6e412a8810dd&id=ccc1ed8eb4&e=917b2c9c3c>. This suggests that building and urban simulation scientists should communicate their research effectively with readers both from within and outside of the scientific community. Therefore, in this presentation, we will be clarifying the principle conventions for writing a scientific conference paper. We propose a top-down approach to writing that begins with structuring the article into sections. Each section should, in turn, be structured in and of itself so that readers can: (i) comprehend the scientific context; (ii) grasp the research questions addressed; (iii) verify methods and results, and (iv) understand the significance of the results. Following the recommendations outlined in the presentation, we seek to make writing easier, more efficient and enable building simulation scientists to communicate their research effectively with a wide audience.
